The pay-by-the-hour computer company

Computer support companies that charge per hour have technicians that come to your office to solve your computer problems when they happen.  These on-site technicians are pretty expensive folks to have around.  Needless to say it costs the computer company a pretty penny when their on-site technicians are not "billing hourly costs" to clients like you.  In many cases the on-site technicians are responsible for producing their own billing and they even get paid based on how many "billable" (there's that word again) hours they bring in.  In these situations you have on-site engineers that need to see as many people per day as possible so they can earn enough billable hours to make the boss happy.  They simply do not have the time or energy to fix anything other than what they came out to fix, and there is no reason for them to "show" anyone how to solve a problem themselves because that means one less billable call in the future.
